The best way to discover what waits on the other side of a door is to open it and fearlessly strut through.

In "If Not 4 U and Some Shoes," a coming-of-age romance adventure expressed through the eyes of a quirky shoe fanatic, author Laurie Nenson tells the story of naïve insecure Francie Lanoo who embarks on a quest to find the perfect shoe after heartthrob classmate Berkeley Mills makes a comment about her unique aqua-colored lace-up platforms.

The two "sole" mates soon become a pair of their own, facing challenges and the ever-growing distance that separates them when Francie moves away to pursue a career in fashion design.

The ongoing shoe hunt eventually morphs into something soul-searching and metaphoric, leading Francie to realize that by stepping out of her comfort zone, she opens herself up to a world of endless possibilities. At the same time, she recognizes that Berkeley is in the same situation, but in a world far away from hers.

"Life is about taking chances, expanding horizons, facing adversity, making sacrifices and moving forward," Nenson said. "By agreeing to take that first step, Francie transforms into the person she's meant to be and, along the way, discovers the key to love and happiness."
