Could the choices a 5-year-old boy made set in motion forces that would deliver him from a desperate fate in Cape Verde to a life rich in promise in Boston? Elisio Depina's debut book "Unbroken Boy: A Memoir of Hope and Survival" (published by Xlibris) answers the aforementioned query as it follows the boy in question as he transforms pain, deprivation and loneliness into a quest to claim the joys of life.

Depina's memoir is a classic "the child is the father of the man" narrative. Inserting a 5-year-old boy into elemental conflicts introduces a metaphysical perspective that strips the life struggle to its essence. A relentless dynamic of contrasts propels the story line. Against the pristine natural beauty of the Cape Verde Islands, the author must survive as a small boy against powerful, antagonistic forces, both human and physical.

"The ultimate message of the book is to never give up, no matter what the circumstances are," Depina emphasizes. "And it can inspire readers with that simple, yet profound life lesson."

As he shares a real person's story of triumph over adversities, the author hopes that readers will learn the importance of decision making and its impact, both negative and positive, in their lives. The need for people to have a stronger understanding of the power of intuition is also an important life lesson everyone can draw from this soulful and inspiring memoir.
