EXPLORING SPIRITUAL NATURALISM, YEAR 2 is Released

'Exploring Spiritual Naturalism, Year 2' is a new book available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. This second volume from the Spiritual Naturalist Society (SNS) is a collection of essays that give the reader a diverse picture of what spirituality could look like without the need for faith-based, or supernatural, beliefs. It is an approach to spiritual practice that is aimed at cultivating the classical 'examined, flourishing, good life'. As such, it is well-suited for those with a modern, scientific conception of the natural universe.

Yet, at the same time, it makes the case for the incorporation of many traditionally-religious practices and rituals. It portrays a sense of awe and wonder, and a more compassionate, humble practitioner than is often represented among the non-religious. The book cuts across familiar categories in new ways. Inspired by Buddhism, ancient Greek philosophy, paganism, and many other traditions, 'Exploring Spiritual Naturalism, Year 2' is an eclectic mix that nearly anyone may find a fascinating read.

The non-profit organization's Executive Director and Humanist minister, Rev. Daniel Strain, notes, "Most people think of spirituality as inherently about the supernatural - God, the afterlife, souls, and so on. How can there be spirituality without spirits? The root Latin word, 'spiritus', meant wind or breath - the essence of life. When we say 'the spirit of the law' we mean the essence of the law. In the same way, a true spirituality would be a practice that focuses on the essence or the essential in life. Our mission is to spread awareness of Spiritual and Religious Naturalism and help build these communities."

To that end, the organization has already brought together an impressive assortment of prominent authors, researchers, and religious leaders including Buddhists, Humanists, Christians, and Pagans on its Advisory Board. This includes author and professor Donald A. Crosby (author, 'A Religion of Nature') who writes 'Exploring Spiritual Naturalism's' foreword. The SNS now gives an online course in Spiritual Naturalism, publishes weekly articles, and has recently started a podcast. Their book provides an overview of this growing approach to spirituality.
