In her new novel, "The Vulcan Hunter" (published by Balboa Press), author E. G. Gardner entertains the idea of the looming annihilation of Earth and the ingenuity that humanity employs to ensure its survival.

After finishing an intriguing book, Dr. Peter Cashman reflects on the novel's premise. He shared the book with his father, a seismologist. Peter's father thinks the book might not be a work of fiction, and that its ideas about the keys to the beginning and end of the world and the consequences of having such knowledge are prophetic.

The Earth is slowly being torn apart as Peter and his team race to find the author of the novel. Peter's dedication to the task hinges on a perilous premise - surely some people can be saved from obliteration; otherwise, why was the story even written? In order to succeed, he must believe he will succeed. But finding faith proves even more difficult than finding the author.

An excerpt from "The Vulcan Hunter":

"The problem as Peter saw it, was that in the event of the book being right, by the time the sphere came into view it would be too late for everyone. They had to find something now and make plans for survival if it was possible. The longer it was left the more would die. Even so the chance of anyone surviving was slim anyway."

Gardner looks at stories about global warming, climate change and natural disasters as signs that a catastrophic event like the one she writes about in "The Vulcan Hunter" might be just around the corner. "This book gives readers a possible scenario of their ultimate demise while at the same time instilling in them a possibility that humanity does have what it takes to survive and continue as a species on the earth," she says.
