BALTIMORE, Aug. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire-iReach/ Leah P. Hollis EdD, assistant professor at the Community College Leadership Doctoral Program, Morgan State University, was the keynote speaker for the opening Faculty Institute on Wednesday August 12, 2015. Hollis was given the honor of addressing her home institution with the theme "Valuing Civility in Higher Education: An Imperative for all Stakeholders." The Morgan State Faculty Institute is an annual academic kick off for the campus faculty and president's cabinet.

During her keynote, she remarked, "Look to your left look to your right two of three of you may face bullying." Nonetheless, the responsibility of achieving civility on the job is upon us individually. She asked, "have you said please or thank you offered a kind word or modeled civility and kindness for students?" Many faculty members commented that her remarks inspired them to reflect on civility from an individual perspective. Her insightful talk was well received and set the tone for a two-day faculty institute which focused on civility and gender diversity, civility with students, and creating a culture of civility on campus.

As a healthy workplace advocate and president of Patricia Berkly LLC, Dr. Hollis is author of the book, Bully in the Ivory Tower: How Aggression and Incivility Erode American Higher Education. Her findings concluded that 62% of higher education employees are subject to bullying in the workplace. She also reminds people that stress from workplace bullying can have an adverse impact on health and wellness.

Since the book's release, Dr. Hollis has helped over 70 schools deal with bullying and aggression on staff. She has traveled to New York, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Arizona, and New Jersey. She has also given talks internationally Oxford, England and Milan, Italy to share her work with scholars and administrators with the goal of creating a healthy workplace for higher education.
