ALAMEDA, Calif.

Donna Marie Ferro was inspired by her grandparents' stories of coming to their new homeland, America, which intertwined with her own life story. Initially unwilling to ever return to Italy after her first trip in 1971, a nudge from her mother changed her mind and she was surrounded by loving cousins on both sides of the family. It made her want to understand more deeply the identity of the people of Liguria and her own identity as a grandchild of brave immigrants from that land. Her search culminates in her new book, "Italy, the Embracing Circle: Il Circolo" (published by Xlibris).

It is the story of Ferro's Italian immigrant family who hailed from a region called Liguria in northern Italy. From there, it arcs towards her return to Italy many years later and connecting with her Italian relatives. It recounts her travels throughout "The Boot" including her adventures and misadventures. Wrapped within the book are authentic Italian recipes from her family and friends, a "How to Pack Check List" for traveling, a glossary of a few words in the Genovese dialect alongside the Italian language and translated into English. Most importantly it is a story of self-discovery as Ferro learns how much Italy inspires her and envelops her heart and soul.

"'Il Circolo' is a reunion story, the rediscovery of family and roots. It's the real dolce vita, lived to the tune of 'Italian Girls Just Want to Have Fun.' If you like laughing, eating and shopping, you're in for a romp of a read. Magnifico!" says Mark Greenside, author of "I'll Never Be French (No Matter What I Do)."

With this, Ferro shows readers around the beautiful region called Liguria, a place where they can laugh and realize that they can join the author's circle as they witness her misadventures and learn that the world is a good place.

"Italy inspires me. Come visit! I will be waiting for you on the balcony in Alpicella. Benvenuto!" she beckons.
