The new historical novel "Can't Hobble the Elephant" explores both the effects and struggles of the American Civil War on soldiers and civilians and the gritty adventure of the old American West. Combining imagination and historical events, the novel highlights the inescapable impacts of combat and a post-war society.

Beyond the fiction, "Can't Hobble the Elephant" works to highlight the issues that continue be relevant in today's world, including the powerful psychological effects of warfare, the existence of slavery, and the struggles of a changing economy.

Author and U.S. Army veteran Frank Dutch draws from his fascination with the West and the Civil War to bring a level of expertise, passion and creativity to his work.

"Based on my lifelong interest in the American West and the Civil War, I wanted to combine history and inventiveness into an entertaining and purposeful story," Dutch said. "Although the book is set in a certain time, the issues the soldiers and civilians faced can still be seen in present day."

Frank Dutch is a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War while stationed in Germany. After serving, he began a 13-year sequence of night class culminating in an MBA from Temple University and spent his career in the industrial business field.
