Steve Spurrier, one of college football's most successful former head coaches, will sign and discuss his new memoir, "Head Ball Coach: My Life in Football" on Thursday, September 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Books-A-Million in Columbia, located at 164 Forum Drive.

Throughout his career, Spurrier has been called brash, cocky, arrogant, pompous, egotistical and hilarious, but the self-proclaimed "Head Ball Coach" hasn't let these names stop him from snagging the title of college football's most colorful and endearing pioneer. In his new memoir, "Head Ball Coach: My Life in Football," Spurrier gives fans an inside look inside his personal huddle both on and off the field. From growing up in Tennessee to winning University of Florida's first Heisman Trophy and eventually playing and coaching in the NFL; to leading his alma mater to six SEC Championships and a National Championship as head coach; to elevating University of South Carolina's football program to new heights - he shares how he intercepted the typical traditions of coaches past to create a legacy that will continue to shape college sports forever.

The 70-year-old Spurrier also talks for the first time about the circumstances under which he unexpectedly became a coach and why he decided to resign from University of South Carolina in 2015. In addition, "Head Ball Coach: My Life in Football" touches on topics like Spurrier's relationship with the media, the difference between winners and losers, why he follows the wisdom of ancient philosophers and warriors, his affinity for everything taught by John Wooden and the reasons behind his relaxed regimen for living well.

Wristbands are required to attend the author and book signing event and are now available at the Columbia Books-A-Million store with the purchase of "Head Ball Coach: My Life in Football." Autographed copies of the book will be distributed to guests during the event on Thursday, September 8.
