It's not easy being on your own, especially when you're young. A little calf with a tendency to wander off gets more than he bargained for when a fast-moving storm leaves him trapped in a ravine all alone. As the story goes in this new children's book, even the rancher can't retrieve the scared calf because of the deep snow. Luckily, he's got some friends in the sky who keep his hope alive.

"The Calf and the Stars" provides a beautiful lesson about the power of friendship, even when it's between stars and a little calf. When he begins to cry, the stars spell out encouraging messages so the little calf knows he's not alone. Told in simple rhymes designed for reading aloud, this delightful children's book offers a heartwarming story that charms adults and children alike. The gentle watercolor illustrations pair beautifully with the story, offering a reminder that friendship can be found in unlikely places.

Author Betty Page and illustrator Phil Wallace recently teamed up for the children's book "It's Neat to Eat." Page, a freelance writer who used the name Betty Russell, wrote human interest articles for the New York Times, Seventeen Magazine and local newspapers. Wallace, whose cartoons have appeared in trade magazines such as Advertising Age and Broadcast Magazine, also illustrated "Tiger Tales," a book about the Flying Tigers in World War II.
