BOULDER, Colo.

As a young girl, author Azira Ndjassue enjoyed running wild in the jungles of Cameroon. During her childhood, however, she also endured repeated sexual exploitation, rape and molestation. She shares her journey in her new memoir, "Growing Up In Cameroon, Africa" (published by AuthorHouse).

"Growing up in a primitive culture is totally different from growing up in modern societies," Ndjassue says. "I had so much fun spending my African childhood in the jungle."

Ndjassue offers readers a history of Cameroon in addition to her own personal history. She hopes that by divulging mistakes she has made, she can help other young people avoid the same ones. She also hopes to instill in readers the joy that permeated her childhood in the jungle and encourage parents to let their children run free, like she was once able to do.

An excerpt from "Growing Up In Cameroon, Africa":

"If you see children who are deprived and denied the right to an education, and they have been sexually exploited because of their circumstances, because they need to buy food or school supplies, school uniforms, or school books and lack money, please write to me. I will provide an education for those children, or I will find someone who will sponsor them. Please, tell those children that help is on the way."
