New York, NY (June 30, 2014) - That encounter and first flash of light occurred in the summer of1963, when 20-year-old Marcia Gloster was studying painting at Oskar Kokoschka's School of Vision in Salzburg, Austria. It marked the beginning of an intense relationship that would change Gloster's life.
Nearly fifty years later, while in a shop in New York, an unfamiliar song caught Gloster's attention. As she stopped to listen, she experienced a second flash of light and a vision of that fateful meeting almost 50 years before. "I was shaken," Gloster says. "I hadn't thought about that summer in decades, but suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, I had the name of a book and the first page of a story, my story. Confused, I practically ran home. Then I began to write. The story poured out of me as the memories returned with unexpected force."
Galina Mindlin, M.D., Ph.D., Psychiatrist, and director of the Brain Music Treatment Center in New York City, Founder of Brain Music Treatment in the U.S., and author of Your Playlist Can Change Your Life commented: "The music Marcia heard was a virtual key to unlocking layers of memories she had stored for decades. Music is a gift that brings people together, and it is also capable of releasing dormant layers of memory."
Dr. Mindlin adds: "Several theories speak to the synergies between music and musical stimuli on the brain and memory, but the need for Marcia to express and unfold her experience was always there. Those emotional memories were in a deep sleep for many years but never left her mind, and that specific musical piece unleashed those memories in full force enabling her, through her memoir, to describe her exhilarating journey. Her experience in 31 Days: A Memoir of Seduction is an invitation to unlock the mind from deep sleep and allow free expression and creativity to rise to a completely new level."
"Forty-five years ago, I put my canvases and brushes aside to begin what would become a long and successful career as an art director in NYC. For all those years, I never painted. In writing the book, I realized Bill Thomson had changed my life, and 48 years later, he changed it again," says Gloster.
31 Days: A Memoir of Seduction will be published by The Story Plant in September. Her paintings have recently been exhibited in New York City, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She is now at work on a second book.
