Sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS are likely not topics center stage in any novel you've read recently. However, the toll these diseases can take on not only oneself but also one's romantic (and non-romantic) relationships is rather incredible.

Author Alan Morrison-Topping's new book, "Naomi and Her Friends," satirically combats political correctness in discussing of these important topics while also revealing the true effects of diseases on everyday life.

"It's a shame these diseases often go un-discussed both in novels and in real life," Morrison-Topping said. "There is such a need for representation of these issues that are a reality for many."

Morrison-Topping is a retired banker who has combined his love of ancient and medieval history with writing to pen the series of books, of which "Naomi and Her Friends" is the first, The Andrew Maccata Series.

"The novel really began as a feel-good story which gradually morphed into a psychological who-dun-it," Morrsion-Topping said. "It intertwines ancient Greek mythology with a modern plot, human behavior and psychological conditions."
