South Africa’s world-renowned Isango Ensemble returns to Boston this fall, but in advance of their stage productions, ArtsEmerson is proud to screen two of their critically acclaimed films.
U-Carmen eKhayelitsha is an artistic triumph, transporting us to a modern South African township to follow the story of a strong, independent woman who will not be tamed. Packed with transcendent music, passion and romance, U-Carmen vividly recreates Bizet’s opera in a way that can only be described as “pure Isango,"" leading The Village Voice to declare: ""This was basically the best idea ever."
