The Marblehead School of Ballet (MSB) invites the public to attend and enjoy the 2016 Summer Dance Intensive Workshop Performanceon Saturday, August 6 at 1:30 p.m. at 115 Pleasant Street in Marblehead, Massachusetts. The program is free. A donation may be made to The Ruth N. Shiff Memorial Fund or the North Shore Civic Ballet Company (NSCB), a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization headquartered at the school.

The performance features students enrolled in the MSB's 2016 Summer Dance Intensive and selected pieces from the NSCB's repertoire. A range of repertory will be performed from classical ballet, modern, and jazz with some original choreography from the NSCB's resident choreographer, Ivan Korn.

"The performance culminates the Summer Dance Intensive 2016 program and various technique classes. The dancers will perform the choreography they learned in the intensive third week of repertory focusing on technique, choreography, and rehearsals, ending with the production of the work. This is a big challenge for these aspiring dancers and also an opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned in the program," said Director Paula K. Shiff, recipient of Salem State University's 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts, who trained at the Boston Ballet and in New York and performed with the Boston Ballet Company.

The Marblehead School of Ballet's 2016 Summer Dance Intensive program was sponsored in part by The Ruth N. Shiff Memorial Fund. For further information about the MSB, the NSCB, The Ruth N. Shiff Memorial Fund or the performance, call 781-631-6262 or send an e-mail to msb@havetodance.com.

Celebrating its 44th year, the Marblehead School of Ballet, founded in 1971 by Paula K. Shiff, has earned a wide reputation for the excellence of its training and integrity of purpose. Classical ballet forms the core of teaching with particular emphasis on correct alignment and development of strength and agility. The sheer pleasure of dance and of music is always central to the classroom experience.

The basic graded program for children includes classes in ballet technique with advanced work in repertoire and pointe. The school also offers a modern dance department, classes for young children in creative movement and classes in improvisation and technique for the older student. A full range of adult classes is offered.

MSB is home to the North Shore Civic Ballet Company (NSCBC). The NSCB gives concert performances and a variety of educational programs for schools; all are suitable for different age groups and levels of development.
