The audiences are completely kooky about "THE ADDAMS FAMILY" at Steps Off Broadway in Bellingham. This restaging of the hit Broadway musical, based on Charles Addams macabre family, offers an evening of surprising hilarity, strong vocal performances and very inventive staging. Superbly directed by Michael La Fleur, the show flies by at the speed of a broomstick, with all of the beloved charters brought to life by a stellar cast. Polly Seale is delightfully "dead-on" as Morticia. She floats across the stage like a wisp of smoke, her signature black dress trailing behind her, as she belts out showstopper after showstopper. Ms. Seale's radiant voice, and the constant sparkle in her eye squeezes every drop out of her sinister character. David Sackel positively steals the show as the passionately child-like, Gomez Addams. Energetic and charming, he dashes around the stage like a mad matador, his sword slashing and his eyes dancing with delight. His distinct, powerful baritone, and his funny Spanish accent blend to create a memorable performance. Ryan Leverone plays Uncle Fester and he is absolutely terrific. His aerial dance with the moon, surrounded by serenading stars, is hilarious, and the special effects are charmingly clever. Cara DiPietro and Nathan Krishnaswami are perfect as the lovesick teens, Wednesday and Lucas. Ms. DiPietro's voice blows the roof off of the theatre, and her song, "Pulled", in which she tortures Pugsley, stops the show. The show's high-energy and winning choreography is by Keith Mottola. His dancing, ghostly ancestors spin and glide among tombstones, and throughout the stairs and hallways of the Addams house, with ease. The Addams family is written by Andrew Lippa (music and lyrics) and Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice (book).

The show is playing to standing ovations at the Steps Off Broadway Theatre, with three final performances this weekend, Friday and Saturday, June 20, 21 at 7:30, with a 2:00pm matinee on Sunday, June 22.
