I just recently bought the book "Juilliard," which I just loved, and I couldn't believe the history behind that school!! However, those of you whom went/are going must be really fortunate to have such an education, more over, possess such a talent. Good for you!! I'm jealous!

Curious though, aside from my fave LuPone, who else is a Juilliard grad and has "made" it today? The book talks about (forgive name mispellings) R. Williams, Eric LaSelle, Christine Baranski, and others that don't come to mind..oh Kelsey Grammer. Whom else? Patti LuPone looked very active in Juilliard productions, according to the book...what a talent she turned out!

Missed the "I"

Kevin Kline
Michael Arden
Brian J Smith (who is taking New York theatre by storm recently)

There are others, but I can't immediately think of them.

Michael Urie (Ugly Betty) was in the same class as my best friend. Tracie Thoms was there the year below (or was it after?) them as well.

Christopher Reeves and Robin Williams were roommates at Juilliard. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that's true.

Robin Williams, at least, didn't graduate.
Boyd Gaines went to Juilliard.

any good pics in the Juilliard book? my friend and I were looking at one in the bookstore at Lincoln Center and there was a gorgeous picture of young LuPone in, I believe, Scapin. is it the same one?

shouldn't one qualify what is meant by "made it?"

imho anyone who is making a living in the fine arts has "made it," especially in these times!

Well, there's no reason to get technical about it!! I just meant that it is a very famous school and, according to the book, Mr. Juilliard wanted to devote a school for students who have a massive talent and to nurish it. I was just curious to know who really got the opportunity to go above and beyond with their talent.

"any good pics in the Juilliard book? my friend and I were looking at one in the bookstore at Lincoln Center and there was a gorgeous picture of young LuPone in, I believe, Scapin. is it the same one? "

To be honest, I can't remember off the top of my head.
However, there are beautiful pictures in it, both in color and black/white. It talks about the history of the school as well as it's divisions.
I bought it for $30, new, on ebay, and I think it retails for $50 It's one of those books that is an asset to your home library - I'm very into these things and I just love theatr and art in general (maybe it's becuase I'm 100 percent Greek :)

Anyway, my next book will be "The Shuberts Present: 100 Years of American Theater." Also, Juilliard: A History, and A Living Legacy: Historic Stringed Instruments at the Juilliard School - that book alone is $75

In addition to the others already mentioned, here are a few more, including the fabulous Frances Conroy, Bradley Whitford, Adam Rapp, Wes Bentley, Mandy Patinkin, Marvin Hamlisch, William Hurt, Val Kilmer, Andre Braugher, Nina Simone, Jamie Foxx. And James Marsters!

i was just wondering if you also wanted to include all the gypsies who are probably not "known quantities" but are working performers. john carroll went there, as did cody green.

Yes, I did indeed read about Bradley Whitford, Adam Rapp, Mandy Patinkin, Marvin Hamlisch, Val Kilmer in the book, but Jaime Fox? Really? That's great!
There's a very cute picture of Marvin Hamlisch in the book, of him being a mere 14 years old? Don't hold it to me, maybe younger, and I was so amazed....talent at such a young age! Mr. Juilliard was indeed a great guy, a lover of the arts, to want to establish such a school...and didn't live to see it. Just love the history....anyone should be proud of their talent, big or small! It doesn't matter - just feel lucky!!

"i was just wondering if you also wanted to include all the gypsies who are probably not "known quantities" but are working performers. john carroll went there, as did cody green. "

Anyone, I don't mind.

I just want to connect with their work, is pretty much what I mean by "made it" (and I hate quotations by the way :) - you know, PC)

There are a few names I don't recognize, unfortunately, and thus I feel I don't recognize their talent as a result.

Plus, look at all those non-Juilliard grads who've also stamped their work in theatre/the arts as well...so my hat's off to you as well! Be proud of talent!
