What a treasure!
Angie's dancing in "Together" is a delight. I've never seen a Rose dance like that.
Her "Rose's Turn" - wow!
Laughter is much more important than applause. Applause is almost a duty. Laughter is a reward.

When was she on Broadway?
I always thought that is how Rose should be played....

Angela starred in the first Broadway revival which played the Winter Garden Theatre in 1974 (after it originated in London). The show ran from September 1974 to January 4, 1975. It went on a US National Tour afterwards.
Mary Louise Wilson, who normally played Tessie Tura in this production, was Angela's understudy.
Rex Robbins was Herbie and Zan Charisse (niece of Cyd Charisse) was Louise.

Its incredible that London had to wait 14 years to get its first production of 'Gypsy'.
It was April 1973 when Angela Lansbury opened the show at the Piccadilly Theatre. Sadly its success wasnt repeated in the West End and it barely lasted 7 months. Angela Lansbury only played 3 months of the run and the show closed with Broadway great, Dolores Gray as Mama Rose. It has never returned to the London stage tho it has had many major productions around the UK and touring.
A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!''
Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'
