I watched the show this evening and the balcony was definitely open and people sat there. It wasn't full but it's interesting how the theater stopped selling Balcony seats.
I can't really add much that has not been said already by people who have loved this show. It is entertaining and so much fun. The cast is great, very good dancing and of course loved those Huey Lewis songs. It is really nice when you can leave a show with a big smile on your face. Unfortunately, it was not very crowded but the people around me seemed to be having as much fun as me. My seat was in the center mezzanine (row 4) for $119. I am on business trip so my wife is not with me but if this show tours I told her I would be happy to see it again and join her at the show.
Quick note. I have a quick meeting at 11am and then done with business. My flight is not until 8pm so I will try to catch a matinee, not fussy as to what show. I figured I would be out of show by 4:30-4:45 and have TSA pre-check so even with traffic should be ok.
Jesse Green from NYT recently wrote that Corey Cott should have been nominated for Best Actor in a leading role in musical. Had he been the NYT theater critic reviewing the show he probably would have praised Cott’s performance.
That may be so, but I think this one will earn its keep in licensing like Addams and Wedding Singer. It’s peppy, funny and has music that people enjoy. I loved it on Broadway, but I look forward to seeing how it does after.
