In a different thread, I mentioned that my husband and I are participating in the 2026 Gay Games in Valencia, Spain (either half or full marathon).  The Games were formed in 1982 and have been held every four years since in cities around the world.  The Games are a positive messenger for our communities.

With the negativity and hatred aimed at us, I believe we must fight back with the truth of our lives.  With that aim, I hope this thread can be used to post what is true of ourselves and our communities.  Videos and websites and personal stories are welcomed.

Good luck with that. I hope these games are held in wintertime. Europe is boiling right now, so much that is a huge threat to public safety. I shudder to think how bad it will be three years from now.

Does Dubai have a team in the Gay Games?

The 2022 Gay Games were scheduled to be held in Hong Kong, but were cancelled because of the Pandemic.  Instead, they will be held in November, 2023, and split between two cities:  Hong Kong and Guadalajara.   The 2026 Games will be back on schedule in Valencia.

Please. Somebody. Anybody. Explain to me how Highland Guy has the nerve to post this after refusing to listen to complaints about Beyoncé playing Dubai. I've been shushed and demonized for raising concerns, and now he says this.

Hey guys, quick question.

I've been offered a job selling a new resort to tourists. Problem is just that it was built by slave labor in a medieval dictatorship where women have no power and being gay is illegal. Still, the money's good.

Should I take it? A buck's a buck, right?

Yes. Do I want to? No. Is a smartphone necessary to function in the modern world? Arguably. Do I constantly update to the latest model? No. Is owning a smartphone comparable to using your celebrity to lure tourists to a hellzone? You tell me.

Because when it came to the topic of Beyoncé’s gig, you put her up on a pedestal. And, she was doing something that honestly bothered and surprised no one else but you. And, as much as it pains me to say this (honestly I can feel my soul dying a little bit in side at just the thought. ). But, Sutton is right. You do have a tendency to make things a little too personally and have some issues regarding your ability to not always see things from someone else’s perspective. 
 

I love how you’re passionate about things. But, sometimes not everyone is going to see your point of view. And, even if they do, they aren’t always going to agree with your take. I am not trying to come off as Harsh or patronizing in any way. Sorry if it didn’t come across as such. And, calling anyone a “pathetic POS”  doesn’t defuse any situation. Is however, a great way to escalate one.

And my last friendly observation is this. It was mentioned in another thread that, Beyoncé doing a gig in Dubai seemed to phase no one but you. That’s all well a good, but, you keep bringing it up time and time again. Frustrated that people keep being don’t feel the same as you and, to be frank it is a little frustrating.I do hope this gives you some Perspective on all this. I honestly hope it does.

And it is absolutely not neccesary to own a smart phone. Just ask Christopher Nolan. But you deem it "arguably" necessary so it's ok. By the way...do you know where all your clothes are made? Do you own other devices with a lithium battery? Clearly you use the internet. Are you aware how much energy that consumes?

Erik, that's some conclusion you've come to based on one question. My smartphone is over five years old, and I don't intend ever buying another one. Tell me, where have I preached? In every conversation on climate change, never have I once said that I am a sin-free example to follow. I include myself in any judgement I make. I don't do enough, I'm happy to admit that. Mental exhaustion and the tough realities of life get in the way. All I can do is recognize that something needs to be done, and make an effort.

I forgot to say that it's utterly ridiculous to expect us all to live life as if we were millionaire Hollywood directors. Christopher Nolan has a fleet of assisstants and secretaries to help him out. Also a PR agency.

For the record, Dubai is too, only way, way worse. I don't think it's necessarily immoral for an artist to hold a paid performance to celebrate the opening of a private resort in either jurisdiction, but it's certainly not great.
