It seems a little strange that ticket sales are only through January 8, and that's Holliday's last performance in the show. What is the likeliness that it will close January 8th?

I would be very upset if it closed..

It's likely unless Erivo extends again, but I doubt she does.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I'd assume THE COLOR PURPLE will close when Cynthia leaves. I hope that's not any time soon but unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if it is in January.

"I really hope she does extend, but it seems really odd that they are just selling until the 8th.

It will close. However, at this time, no one knows when that will happen. It might be months, it might be years...

Everything closes eventually. Except Phantom.

I suspect it will close. Groundhog Day was going to go in there but moved theatres when Jersey B announced its closure as it was more desirable.

They said on Live@5 today on broadway.com that it will be closing in Jan.  It caught me off guard because I wasn't sure that was official.  A slip of the tongue by them?!

It hasn't recouped, has it?

no, but I would have to imagine it must be close. And with Brooks leaving the show on Nov. 13 and not being replaced with a "name" adds something to the Jan. 8 closing date.

Do you know what's weird. They posted a cast notice for the show for major roles. Does this show anything or do you think the show will still close on January 8th?

I believe that Equity requires shows to have auditions every so often even if they have no intention of recasting, so that might not mean anything.

On a similar note, will this production tour? Thoughts?

https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/THE-COLOR-PURPLE-to-Welcome-New-Mister-on-Broadway-20161024

"Beginning performances Tuesday, November 15, Nathaniel Stampley will assume the role of Mister. Isaiah Johnson, who originated the role, will give his final performance on Sunday, November 13."

Still no word about closing, or Cynthia's last date.

Wow, who is going to be left on January 8th? I am planning to be there. As long as Cynthia is there, I’m good. However, I am disappointed that Isaiah Johnson won't be there. I saw TCP twice with him and once without him, and seeing it without him made me appreciate how much his performance contributed to the show. He brings the intensity and heart needed for Mister. For me, he is one to follow. The original TCP cast (plus Heather) –  lot of talent.

Is there a more irritating individual than Paul Wontorek?

What? I really like Paul :O

I really think he's responsible for Broadway.com's "we are a cheerleader for every show" approach *. He's a genuine fan boy himself, and frankly - his interviews show sides of his guests we don't often get to see because of how comfortable he makes them feel. We could use more people like him in the industry. You can tell he has his opinions (good and bad) but he very consciously does not share negative opinions, which is impressive because how easy it is to do that in theater.

* - I know Broadway.com tacks on crazy service fees on top of tickets - but that's their biggest revenue source.

Update - no, I don't work for Bway.com haha.

Not to turn this into a thread all about him, but Paul Wontorek is a grade A creep. Lots of his Show People interviews with "Broadway hunks" get so nasty and uncomfortable, especially his lust for Aaron Tveit. And many of his interviews consist of him reading credits from actors' Wikipedia pages and having them respond, rather then delving into actual questions. And while he may not always state his opinions outright, any contempt of his shines right through the things he says, in terms of which shows get his attention and how he talks about shows/people.
