Oh sorry I never doubted that it was certified platinum but traditionally platinum meant it sold nearly a million copies. I was just saying that it's definitely being over certified. Now they take into account other things such streaming. I guess it makes sense since album sales are so terrible.
Anyway good for them. The Cast Recording is obviously a huge success. When was the last time a cast recording had this kind of success? Wicked?

My recollection was that Wicked took a while (like 2-3 years) to go platinum although by now of course it has sold over 2 million. So I suspect Hamilton holds the modern day speed record.
I can't stop listening to this album. The whole cast is fabulous. I wasn't into Hamilton until my friend recommend I try listening to it and now I'm HOOKED. I'd love to see it but know tickets are limited.
In particular, the orchestrations are BRILLIANT. I am highly impressed with how much talent LMM has.
Phillipa Soo is a hit with her song Burn. Gives me goosebumps.
And for further clarification, much of the actual music you hear was not even written by LMM. His [uncredited] collaborator is, in fact, Mr. Lacamoire. He might as well be consider LMM's "ghost writer." Granted, what he lacks in the songwriting department he certainly makes up for in lyrics. No question.
To use the hip hop analogy, LMM is the rapper. He writes the words, the rhythms, the musical hooks and melodies, even some of the chord progressions. Lacamoire is the producer, who makes it into the full song you hear.
Not that LMM is musically illiterate or not a real composer- he's just writing in an idiom that is collaborative in a different way.

he isn't uncredited, Alex Lacamoire has always been credited officially with "arranging" Miranda's songs, and I've heard both state in interviews that Lin isn't very good at notation and all that so Lacamoire is kind of his typist in a way. I don't think this makes him any less of a songwriter.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
