who do u think are famous for their charisma and stage presence instead of singing or acting talent? I would say top of the list are Carol Channing and Harvey Feinstein

I  have to say Madonna holds the title.

Not theater talent but I think Taylor Swift fits in well here.

To a lesser extent, I'd say LMM could be there too.

I thought this was going to be about Bernie Sanders.

I think Madonna got pretty good reviews for her turn in "Speed-the-Plow", although that was straight acting.

"They were shockled that she remembered her lines.  She was adequate in a modest role in a short play.

There is a trend now where social media following has an influence on casting. Hopefully the numbers at Tuck will show producers and casting agencies that followers =/= an audience.

Taylor Swift is a very talented songwriter, but not that great at singing. Same with Lin, although I do think Lin is a great rapper and a good actor so it's not like he has nothing to offer but charisma on stage.

Swift is a competent and even sometimes amazing country songwriter, not so as a pop writer though. At least for me, her recent albums are too generic and don't have the heart like some songs she wrote years before that would bring you to tears.

Hmm, I'd disagree. Songs like Shake It Off are definitely generic and without substance, but I think Style is one of the best pop songs I've ever heard.

Having finally seen Carol Channing live in the 1990s revival of HELLO, DOLLY! in Pasadena, I would say her charisma and talent were equal. If you're judging her on her singing voice, I suggest, OP, you listen to a little Louis Armstrong (What a Wonderful World) to recognize that style and delivery often trump technique.

Yup.  Respectable talent, to be sure, but tremendous charisma.

I thought the same thing when I saw his one-man show. Tons of charisma. Later I heard a segment of a YouTube clip without realizing who it was at first (it was in another tab), and was like, "Who IS this person with the trumpety voice?!" even though I had BEEN there.

But this thread is about having more charisma than talent. IMO, no one on the face of the earth has as much charisma vs. talent as Ms. Ciccone. She's been criticized from day one for having little talent, yet no one could take their eyes off her. I say good for her!

I wouldn't say he's famous for his charisma rather than his talent but I personally think Neil Patrick Harris' stage presence is better than his actual abilities.

i've got 99 problems and a revival of parade would solve like 94 of them

Absolutely. And not just in Dolly!, either.

THIS. This was my entire problem with his Hedwig performance.
