I loooved how much fun this song was when I saw Bright Star and became SO hopeful for the rest of the show. All the parts meant to be funny were funny, the cute and sexy bits were cute and sexy, and it got the response from the audience it wanted as the jangly foot-tapping number that it is. But then the rest of Act 1 all but deflated me, especially the scene before intermission. Womp womp.
Carmen though, *swoon*. And Paul. They're just so wonderful. I told Carmen I thought she was amazing like 5x because I didn't know what to say to her, and she said "aw thank you" in her adorable English accent 5x back. XD
The goods parts really do make me want to revisit it, despite the oh so torturous parts...
Erivo is a lock. But Cusack is giving a simply fantastic performance - I hope she's at least recognized with a Tony nomination. It's a crowded category.

Erivo is (rightfully) a lock, but I do hope Cusack is at least nominated. Her performance is one of my favorite in recent memory.

There's no way Carmen will win the thing. A nomination, however, is feasible and I am hoping beyond hope she is recognized. Such a dense category this year.
Paul Alexander is FINE, but the performance was far more than fine!! So fun. And I have the recording version on repeat as we speak! I love this song so much.
They/them.

I know this isn't related to the topic, but people have already brought up the subject, so... why do you guys consider Erivo a lock? I'm not trying to start a fight or anything, just honestly curious. I do think Erivo is giving a jaw-dropping performance, but this season is full of great performances: Carmen Cusack, Philipa Soo, Audra McDonald (or has the Tony comittee ruled that her performance falls under the 'featured' category?), Mueller, Erivo and Benanti. Tony voters could relate more to someone else's performance (or even 'decite to share the wealth', supposing some are voting the The Color Purple in revival). I only consider someone's performance a lock when it truly stands out amidst a poor season (or full of close shows). Last year's result for featured actress was an example of that: people thought the Tony would go to someone from Fun Home (though predictions were split between Sydney Lucas and Judy Kuhn), but it went to Ruthie Ann Miles.

Cynthia is a lock like Hamilton! If you don't think so you haven't seen Cynthia transform right before your eyes. People love to praise the same old performances.
The committee won't rule on Audra until Shuffle Along opens next week.
