The London production ended is historical run tonight. Did anybody go? Has this show made an impact or will it be forgotten in musical theatre history?

I was there. It was absolutely stunning. All the kids who played Billy and Michael and Debbie rotated in and out between scenes, sometimes even in the middle of scenes. It added an extra layer of humor and poignancy to this wonderful show for just that one performance. Dozens of former Billy's were there too, along with the creative team. For all of us at the Victoria Palace Theatre that night it was an unforgettable experience
I do think it will have a lasting impact. Millions of people saw it over 11 years. Sure, some were pretty vocal in their disdain but many, many theatre fans really loved that show. I'm sad to see it close.
It's certainly had an impact already creatively - lots of current shows owe elements to Billy Elliot - and I'm sure it will have a long life touring or in school productions.
^at the end of its run on Broadway, it's operating costs were 800,000 dollars a week. Matilda is suffering the same thing.

I get the sense it is coming back. It's seems the only reason it closed is due to Victoria Palace being renovated. Has anything been announced to open after renovation?
