Rather than put this in the TheatreForum Help thread, I'm starting this so the news is more easily available. Whatsonstage's American owner, Theatremania, is closing down TheatreForum on February 12 - and, reportedly, will hold onto the data/threads/history in it. Members over there are discussing what to do.
Probably want us lot who mainly post over there to come over here. Don't think we will really know what will happen till the old site has been offline a month and we have figured out which option we like best.
Some feedback from theatreforum and why some posters won't come over here and a major reason is that they don't like being constrained by one thread, they like have a general thread and one for musicals and plays, I can see the benefits of this.
Also they say that BWW isn't very tablet friendly.
Also the amount of advertising, unfortunately this is a necessary evil.
Theatreforum is much more orderly than BWW. Although BWW has its advantages in its more wide open approach and usage.
There is a "general forum" to discuss general topics not specific to a show. That is where, for example, the "bad behaviour" stories are collected. A "musicals" forum where there is one thread for a show - not multiples. A "plays" forum where there is one thread for a show - not multiples. Then boards for "performers" "off west end" and one for asking questions about "working in theatre".
The "off west end" is primarily about shows outside of London, not just shows that are not in an "official west end" theatre.
Is there any chance a user will share their username and password so we could read the forum before it closes?
there is just so much knowledge and information thats about to be lost- I was really interested in reading the forum.
I understand its a weird request and unorthodox to ask people to share their password- but it is for a site that's closing- maybe someone wont mind. Its worth at least asking I guess
Agree this forum forum feels a lot nastier. But maybe that's just how it seems to a British person...
Why don't you go? Why don't you leave Manderley? He doesn't need you... he's got his memories. He doesn't love you, he wants to be alone again with her. You've nothing to stay for. You've nothing to live for really, have you?
