Just saw this article about Nevermore opening at New World Stages in January.

This production played the Vancouver area as part of a Western Canadian tour this past spring. It is an expanded version of the show that they did in 2010. I missed it then, and went to see this not expecting much but liked it so much that I went back the next night to see it again. It is a very stylized production that is not naturalistic at all, with the actors performing almost like human puppets or robots. I enjoyed it.

Human puppets?

No thanks. When I go to a show I want to see people playing people.

The posters alone have me excited. The costumes look great. Love the big one on 49th of the guy with the cool glasses. They have a video preview up on their site. Looking forward to this one.

I saw it at the New Victory a few years ago, and caught the New World Stages production last week. I really enjoyed it! The costumes are beautiful and I loved the score (especially in Act 2). Hope this has a successful run, and they release a cast album soon.

I saw it last night and LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it! The costumes are so unique. The actors movements are so spot on and the acting and singing is just utterly wonderful. I did hear two people talking as they walked out that it was a little depressing. Well, LADIES - his life wasn't all sunshine and puppies!! Please, please, please go see this special play. I'm definitely going back and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there is a cast recording. Two songs are sooooo especially haunting and wonderful.. :) It's also currently part of the 20 for 20 tickets may be available inexpensively.

Saw this on Monday. I could see this transferring to a small Broadway house and then them upping the sets, cast, lighting, etc. The story itself is good. I would cut out the ship scenes in the beginning of the acts - they are not necessary really. The costumes do look put together by tape which I assume is what they were going for, but they still did look a bit cheap. Creative look though. Music was haunting and the acting was fine. The story is the star here as you would think. The life of Poe was just tragic and it made for a good show.

I find all the praise thrown at this show mind-boggling. There's hardly anything positive to say here. The writing is beyond boring, the acting is abominable, the "set" is laughable, the lighting is offensive, the movement/dancing is nonsensical but the costumes are passable. I honestly can't get across how bad the acting is, especially the woman playing Fanny Allen. She looks and sounds like she had a stroke mid show but they had no replacement in line.

A decent show may be hidden in there somewhere but it's buried under an overly detailed script. We don't need the narrator to tell us he walks six steps before opening a door and then see Poe walk said steps and open said do. There's far too much showing and not telling.

There is no way this can last until May. The show last night was very poorly sold (maybe the first five rows were filled). The audience that was there didn't seem too enthused because many of the moments were met with minimal reactions including laughter and/or applause.

I have no idea why the website says the show is "appropriate for ages 12 and up. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre" because this feels like such a children's show to me.

I loved it. Very Tim Burtoness. I think the under 12 warning is because of the gore and scary things involved.

Saw it and really enjoyed it. I forgot that it is done in verse so it took me a bit to settle in to it. Love the music and would buy it in a heartbeat if it were available. Regarding the ship scenes, they are a framework for the show. And as far as no applause during the performance, it it quite evident that it was written with no applause breaks. It may not be for everyone but I found it to be an enjoyable evening. Straight forward storytelling. I really don't get the complaints over the costumes. They are quite inventive. I found out after seeing it that it is a steam punk look. Also found the lighting to be quite effective. Love what they do with the one set piece on stage and the sliding panels. JMO

Just back from seeing this tonight and LOVED it! And it looks like there may be some intention to produce a cast recording.

Just booked a Thursday matinee ticket for next week at $39. Almost total choice of seat -- only about 30 or so seats already sold it looked like. Kind of scary that it isn't selling, but hey -- how many shows can you see at THURSDAY matinees?

In very unsurprising news, NEVERMORE will conclude its run on Sunday, March 29.

I also thought this show was terrible. It's pretty much all sung through or narrated and by intermission I couldn't stand it anymore and saw no chance of the show improving so I left. In the past three years that I've been going to the theater in NY I've never left at intermission, but saw no reason to sit through this any longer. The music sounds generic, there is barely any story, the acting is amateurish and it's all pretty laughable. Usually I'd stay for the second act just to see what happens, but it felt like bad performance art that there was no reason for me to keep watching.

The theater was so empty that there had to be no more than 50 people and it garnered barely any reaction from them. Why are they staying open until the end of the month? They should be closing this weekend.

How people here could have liked this I don't know. I'm guessing they don't see many actual good shows and are just mesmerized by unique staging. The costumes and props up close looked so cheaply made and it's not Tim Burton-esque, it's just a bad rip off.

New World Stages really needs to get some better tenants. Heathers was fun, though flawed, the Peter and the Starcatcher transfer was still really great and Stalking the Boogeyman was a fantastic play. But this, Greed, that app voting show, that boring one man Churchill show really don't belong in this great space. I'd like to see Found, Bedbugs or Pretty Filthy have a second life here. All fantastic recent musicals.

We are all entitled to our opinions on shows but I do take offense with the statement that those of us who like this particular show must not have seen very many good shows. Like you are the be all and know it all of theatre. I have seen plenty of, what I found to be, both good and not so good shows. On Broadway, off Broadway and regionally. The great thing about the arts is that thereis something for just about everyone. And not everything is for everyone. You didn't like it. We did. Maybe we feel the same way about you as you feel about us! JMO

Hated Heathers with a passion. If you or others liked it that is your prerogative. You pay for your ticket so you have a right to your opinion as do I.

To ANT and Roxy,

We are ALL entitled to our opinions, but we are not entitled to make value judgements about other people based on their taste in theater.

Oh wait - unless you think you are of the entitled persuasion.
