Did anyone find reference to Azelma in the script that was posted and then pulled? I was on the movie’s pinterest page of “Les Mis inspired recipes” and one was “Hot Chocolate & Croissant - breakfast for Azelma Thénardier?”

WOW! Can't wait to see a high-res version. Was this recorded in the US?

In another country.

It looks like the supposed trailer that has been attached in some screenings of SKYFALL in the UK.

In that case, we may not see this version of the trailer in the US at all.

International trailers almost always differ slightly from American ones.
Hopefully we'll see something similar soon.

The one who posted the trailer clip is from Australia, but it was attached to another movie event. But based on descriptions of the trailer shown with Skyfall, it looks identical with that one.

The Thenardier character poster looks ridiculous. They look like porcelain dolls.

Interesting article from the LA Times on the singing in Les Miserables.

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/moviesnow/la-et-mn-sneaks-les-miserables-20121104,0,5503621.story

Excerpts:

>>Musical director Stephen Brooker, who also supervises the London stage show, said the cast went through extensive preparation for the film, including months of work with voice coaches and nine weeks of rehearsal. The actors brought their own vocal qualities to the roles.

As the noble ex-convict and protagonist Jean Valjean, Jackman's sound is "very muscular," Brooker said, and reflective of his extensive musical theater experience. "It's pingy at the top end, it's got energy."

Crowe, who plays Valjean's nemesis, the dogged Inspector Javert, has a background in rock music and an edgier sound, "a dark baritone," Brooker said. Hathaway, a trained singer whose mother once played Fantine in a national tour, conveys "a real sense of fragility."

A major concern regarding the live approach was ensuring that the actors stayed in singing shape. Brooker said he did his best to monitor the cast's vocal health and work load, though he recalled some "brilliant, crazy nights," such as when "Hugh Jackman was up to his ears in mud in an estuary in Kent, still singing at 2 o'clock in the morning."

Jackman survived the ordeal, voice intact. In the end, Hooper said, none of the obstacles proved insurmountable, and the results were worth the challenge.

"Singing unlocks something in actors that's different," he said. "I think I can safely say that you'll see something different from all of them that you've never seen on film before."<<<

Is it just me, or does it seem like audience members at that linked screening laughed loudly when Crowe sang? Hmmm...

It really bugs the hell out of me how everyone is all "Ooooh, Oscar buzz!"

Nobody has seen the effing thing yet! And saying "it's Les Mis!" is a boneheaded reason to think "Oscar!"

I have great hope it will be wonderful and there's a ton of evidence it could possibly be, but already saying it is a top runner for the Oscar? This is the type of hype that prematurely kills things off when every high expectation isn't met. And if anyone knows how diverse the expectations for this film are, it's me, and a lot of people aren't going to like the film.

I don't care if everyone hates it. As long as I love it and it makes up for the HORRIBLE version touring the U.S, currently.

>>>Nobody has seen the effing thing yet!<<<

There was a screening on October 6 at Arclight in Hollywood. Sasha Stone of AwardsDaily reported that Tom O'Neil of Goldderby was fully informed by a top predictor there ( by the unusuual name of Snuggles4) who saw the screening that he thinks Les Miserables will sweep the Oscars! This guy was their top fan predictor ( 88% accuracy rate) in the last Oscar. There was also a podcast by Jeff Wells ( Hollywood Elsewhere) where he said that someone who saw the movie alleged that the film is "Hugh's movie...not so much Russell...and maybe Anne". So, we have been seeing some trickles now.

Special screening for awards bodies ( AMPAS, Golden Globes, and other guilds) has been reported to start during Thanksgiving weekend...so, expect more buzz to come out then. There will be an LA Times-sponsored special screening (with a Q&A with Hooper, Jackman et al) on the same day that the Golden Globes nods will be announced on December 13.

LOL - some sites (BoxOfficeMojo and BoxOffice.com) have even started predicting domestic box office receipts for Les Mis ( both over a $ 100 million) Les Mis Filming Has Started

I meant the general public, obviously. I doubt those in the industry are making this thing with their eyes and ears closed! And it's the general public throwing about the Oscar thing and they are only throwing it around because others have been throwing it around and because "it's Les Mis." I doubt most have been saying that due to a top Oscar predictor gushing over it. And if that is the reason, then I need to give the general public more credit, and we all know I never will. So...there! Les Mis Filming Has Started

I can understand that the producers of the Dark Knight Rises and Les Mis both want to give Anne the best possible shot at winning an Oscar this year (I'm betting she'll take it home for Mis, just my theory). Rumor has it that the people behind Dark Knight Rises are pushing for her in leading actress categories, and Mis will be pursuing Anne for the Supporting categories.

But I still can't help but feel that Mis will be shutting out the possibility of featuring at least two of their ladies at the Oscars. Possibly Helena, Amanda, or Samantha (Sam's my bet) will pull out a surprise tour-de-force performance and then both Les Mis ladies will be in the supporting category together. I can't see Mis's producers wanting to have their gals compete one against another.

I have a sneaking suspicion Anne will be bumped up to leading for Mis and Samantha will be nominated for supporting. Wild out there guess at this point.

And yes I know we haven't seen it yet. But I still like predicting. =)

Also, WISH they would make character posters for the rest of the characters, Marius (his own), Eponine and Enjolras. I don't care if they're not household names yet. Humph.

One of the more notable film bloggers/Oscar forecasters, Kris Tapley of HITFIX, said he has been assured by official sources that Universal Pictures will be campaigning for only one lead role in Les Miserables, Hugh Jackman. Everybody else will be campaigned for in supporting roles, whether actors or actresses.

Sorry, I can't find the specific link anymore, but this is already common knowledge among Oscar forecasters, hence you will find Anne in the Supporting Actress category. Russell Crowe who can probably be argued as a co-lead will also be campaigned for in the Supporting category. Javert has more impact on the story and definitely has the second most important screen time, compared to the Fantine role.

MyOhMy, this film basically has Oscar written all over it, so the predictions aren't completely unfounded. The fact that it's a period film means there are plenty of opportunities for it to be visually stunning, and period films often do very well come awards season. Also, consider the pedigree involved...Tom Hooper (who did a beautiful job directing The King's Speech), two Tony winners, an Oscar winner, Anne Hathaway who is an Oscar nominee and generally a very well-liked actress, plus the fact that the musical is incredibly well-known, etc., etc. People start crying Oscar extremely early all the time, and they can either be very right or very very wrong (as we saw with Nine a couple of years ago). This is not the first time a big movie like this has been predicted to win awards.

Obviously it could pan out differently, but right now its chances are looking good and I think it's pretty highly anticipated in both the industry and among the general public.

What do you guys think about Les Mis in the Sound Mixing and Sound Editing categories?

I know that generally those two categories are geared towards movies like Inception, Transformers, War Horse, The Bourne Identity, etc. where there usually are a lot of sound editing that goes into the war and action sequences.

But given that the singing was recorded LIVE for Les Mis, would that garner a nod (and maybe win) for Sound Mixing and/or Sound Editing?

This is hardly the first unreleased film to have Oscar buzz before the general population has scene it.
