Perfect Dem strategy. All year they played low, not expending energy on rebutting all the usual right wing chatter BS. 90 days...and out comes the big guns. Dems finally digging up the garbage.
All his rhetoric about "hard-working taxpayers" being screwed by Obama sounds especially hilarious now. And you know, I wouldn't resent his economic status so much if it looked like he had the first clue how to empathize with people who aren't in his position, but it doesn't and he doesn't, so he'd be a pretty piss-poor choice for leading a country comprised almost entirely of such people.
What makes me believe this story further is that, if Romney actually released his tax returns, he could further support that right-wing meme that the rich pay too much in taxes. After all, according to his words, Romney has paid a lot of taxes, so why not show us and prove your point?
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
As much as I despise Willard and believe the story, we need a better source. I believe Harry Reid and admire the fact that he is NOT backing down. However, it is just heresay without any concrete proof.I was pissed when Alan West said he knew there were a good number of Democrats who were communist. No proof at all,yet his claim was believed anyway.I believe Harry but I wish his source would come forward.
I've also heard Reid's source could be someone in the Mormon Church (Harry Reid is also a Mormon)and I've even heard John McCain's name come up.Part of me thinks this is a very well played game by the Democrats. They know all Mitt can do now is squirm. Maybe Harry's source will come forward sometime in late October. Who knows.
I've also heard of another scenario. This in a way has Karl Rove's fingerprints all over it.What if the Democrats took the bait and in another month or so Mitt does in fact release his tax returns and there is nothing to them? No secrets at all. His returns show he paid his taxes and there is really nothing interesting there. A little bit of 'Rathergate' comes to mind. I personally think this is a long shot but still,we're talking about Karl Rove here.
I hope and pray this story stays in the news. Mitt could be announcing his VP pick today or in the coming days in hopes to draw attention away from this.I pray the media sticks with it. If the media wants drama,a scandal, and ratings they have to know there's one right under there nose waiting for someone to expose it.

Damn! I was all excited when first reading this thread.
The media had better stick with it.

The question that no one has been able to answer regarding Reid's accusations is, how would a Bain investor have private information regarding Mitt Romney's taxes? If I invested in Apple does that mean I would have had access to Steve Jobs personal tax statements? Also, a Google search of "Dana Bash and Mitt Romney taxes" turned up zilch.
At this point, the GOP would have a better chance if they announced a different candidate at the convention. From what I have seen, most people planning to vote Romney are doing so because they are either voting against Obama or just voting Republican because that's what they consider themselves to be.
John McCain considered Mitt Romney as his running mate and examined Mitt's tax returns. He then selected Sarah Palin as the better candidate.
Now John McCain is being asked to condemn Reid which he did, by calling the attack a "low blow" and saying that the dignity of the senate was disgraced by Reid making his attack from the floor. But what DIDN'T he say? He didn't say "I've seen his taxes and he paid plenty" or some similar remark- which would settle the matter- or at least shut down the attacks. Interesting.

Apparently the new rumor is John Huntsman is the one who told Harry Reid about Romney's taxes. I didn't know this, but Huntsman's dad had close ties to Bain Capital. And Huntsman and Reid are in the same cult.... Bravo to Harry Reid for keeping this issue alive. There's a Rumor Going Round

The not saying who it is makes me believe it is a fellow Mormon. I have suspected for a long time that we may very well be surprised at the Republican Convention. Mitt is starting to come across as a caricature
