I was trying to think of all the actresses who will be competing to get a Tony nomination this upcoming year and I'm pretty sure I am missing a dozen of them. So far I can only remember the following:
Jennifer Garner- CYRANO DE BERGERAC Allison Pill- MAURITIUS Claire Daines- PYGMALION Laurie Metcalf- NOVEMBER (or is she featured?) Rosie Perez- THE RITZ Main actress in FEMALE OF THE SPECIES
Who will be considered leading actress (if any/if known) in ROCK N' ROLL, THE SEAFARER, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, THE 39 STEPS, and any other play I'm forgetting now. I was also wondering who people wish would make the nominees list--though I know it's too early for any proper predictions.

As for ROCK 'N' ROLL, I think Sinead Cusack will be referred to as 'the main female role in the show' -- however, I have an inkling she'll get a nod for 'Featured' this year.
Rosie Perez may be considered Featured if Roundabout submits her as such -- remember Rita Moreno won for Featured not Lead for the original production.
There is no lead female in ROCK N ROLL (Sinead Cusack will be considered Featured).
There are no women in the cast of THE SEAFARER.

From the reviews, it seemed like Deanna Dunagan was the Lead Actress of AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY (Isherwood compared her character to Mary Tyrone, Amanda Wingfeld, Regina Giddens from LITTLE FOXES and Martha from VIRGINIA WOOLF)

Margo, I seemingly figured as much by the research I've done on the show (ROCK 'N' ROLL) - I was making a generalization pertaining to how the everywo/man would knowingly look back on her performance. She's not a lead per se, but she's very active throughout. "Featured" is a definite for Sinead Cusack.
Two actresses in August: Osage County were nominated for Jefferson Awards in Chicago in the "Actress in a Principal Role" category -- Deanna Dunagan and Amy Morton. Based on the reviews, Deanna Dunagan is definitely the main lead -- I do not have a good sense of whether Amy Morton would really be considered a Leading Actress for the Tonys.

I love Amy Morton -- such a great actress. Glad to see her back on the New York stage. Hope she does get a Tony nod (in either the lead or featured category).

Margo, I thought Rita Moreno had been rather displeased that she was considered "featured" for her turn in THE RITZ (or is that just a rumor?). As a matter of fact, just about everyone I have heard talk about the original production keeps talking about Rita Moreno, I don't think I have heard anyone even mention Jack Weston (who played Gaetano). I also thought that Moreno had been placed in the featured role because of the below-the-title Tony ruling. I guess we will find out once the Tony committee rulings for THE RITZ are announced. I was wondering if perhaps the producers will want Perez to compete in the featured category where she probably has a bigger chance of getting a nomination and possible win.

Also, that revival of The Sea Gull is coming up in late April -- can't remember offhand who played Madame Arkivina (sp?), but the whole production was well-reviewed in London and the actress may just slip in the running at the last minute.

Frances de la Tour's role in Boeing-Boeing (assuming she's transferring) struck me as featured. All 4 women in the show (the maid and the 3 flight attendants) are clearly featured, though the maid's role is the largest. So it can go either way.
