Can we take another critical look at the ways in which we live together? How? By mixing individuals until they all merge together? By recognizing boundaries and identities? Which rituals, sacrifices and agreements are needed to shape a collective body, even if it is short-lived? And what landscapes do we create for this new production, Pindorama, the original name of Brazil before the arrival of the Europeans?
Choreographer Lia Rodrigues examines these questions in her new production, Pindorama. This is part three of a triptych about the relationship between the individual and the group. The trilogy began with Pororoca, a title that refers to the place where the Atlantic travels inland upstream on the Amazon River. It was followed by Piracema, a word that describes the fish that swim against the current of the river. Parts one and two were presented in Kaaitheater in 2010 and 2011.
