“The day is coming when a single carrot, freshly observed, will set off a revolution.” -Paul Cezanne

Welcome to Baltimore, Single Carrot Theatre!  Citizens of Charm City, join us in welcoming them with big attendance at their first offering, An Evening of Short Plays, featuring 3 of Baltimore's most critically acclaimed playwrights!

After an extensive city search, Single Carrot Theatre, a new theatre company of nine University of Colorado alumni, has made Baltimore its official home. The company evaluated each city based on its potential for enabling the growth of young artists.   Artistic director J. Buck Jabaily believes that Baltimore will be a great home for Single Carrot because of its thriving, supportive arts community.  “It's exciting to move to a place that welcomes growth, challenge and change,” Jabaily said.

The new theater company is collaborating with established Baltimore theatre artists, including Ira Gamerman (Split) City Paper’s best playwright of 2006, Rich Espey, winner of the 2006 Best Play Award at the Baltimore Playwright's Festival (Hope's Arbor), and Mary Steelsmith. The festival will feature three new, short plays produced, acted, directed  and written by aspiring artists from Baltimore, Colorado and California.   Those plays are Espey's Martha's Choice, Gamerman's An Interview with Martin Van Buren, and Steelsmith's True Blue.

Single Carrot originated in May, 2005 in Boulder, Colo. Single Carrot produced and performed multiple works in Colorado ranging from contemporary shows such as David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow to adaptations of classics such as the holiday-themed La Muñeca (The Doll), a tale translated from a Spanish poem by Vital Aza.   This summer The Decameron Project, based on the Italian epic, The Decameron, by Giovanni Boccaccio, premiered at the Boulder International Fringe Festival.  Most recently, Single Carrot held a one-act play competition and readings, receiving over fifty entries from across the country and as far as Iran.

Single Carrot’s Mission Statement:
