Marc Shaiman and his partner Lou Mirabal were married today, at the end of Lieutenant Commander Mirabal's retirement ceremony, honoring his more than 20 years of service to our country. The wedding was officiated by Tom Kirdahy (The Visit, Mother and Sons) in New Jersey. Wedding guests included Bette Midler, Whoopi Goldberg, Julia Murney, Nathan Lane, Mark Sendroff, Hunter Ryan Herdlicka, Darlene Love and many others. According to Page Six, the Grateful Dead all-star tribute album will hit shelves this May 20th. The album, which will be a 59-track box set, will benefit the HIVAIDS nonprofit Red Hot.

Last month, cast members of Hingham High School Drama Club's The Shuddersome Tales of Poe performed at two in-school assemblies in preparation for the first round of Festival, a state-wide event hosted by the Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild. Though the first assembly went off without a hitch, there were reportedly 'obnoxious shouts echoed from students across the auditorium when the house lights were turned off.' The comments were described by one student at the assembly as 'sexual, derogatory, and 'homophobic.'

On Tuesday, March 8, facilities supervisors at historic Masquers Playhouse in Point Richmond, CA, discovered major damage to the theater's primary interior support structure. An immediate investigation determined that the theater should not be reopened to the general public until its structural integrity is restored. By all current indications, this process will take months on end.

Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey's new musical adaptation of FREAKY FRIDAY is set for a second regional production at the Cleveland Playhouse for the spring of 2017. This announcement confirms that FREAKY FRIDAY will not be heading to Broadway and will continue to follow the MTI trajectory. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the musical will also play the Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA this fall.
According to the Washington Post, the national touring cast of ANNIE got heckled this week at DC's National Theatre. The heckler attended the show Tuesday night, and is said to have yelled, 'That was terrible!' from his seat, following the number 'We'd Like to Thank You Herbert Hoover.' There were no reported reactions from the cast or the other audience members during the incident.
