Kyle Christopher West

Kyle Christopher West is obsessed with the arts. Growing up on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Kyle trained as a gymnast and dancer where he performed across the East Coast in productions of West Side Story, Damn Yankees, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Fame, Footloose and more. He began professionally choreographing summer stock musicals at the Cape's Academy Playhouse at only sixteen years old (working alongside director Kim Croker, sister of Broadway's Scott Ellis), and made his directorial debut with A Chorus Line just two years later.

Upon moving to New York City in 2004, Kyle continued his education working hands-on with various Broadway and off-Broadway productions. As a promotional marketing manager, Kyle worked under Broadway producer Barry Weissler (Chicago, Grease, Annie Get Your Gun) on the Christina Applegate revival of Sweet Charity, and for Ken Davenport (Spring Awakening, It's Only A Play, Godspell, 13) on his first New York productions. Kyle also worked closely with producer Tom D'Angora (Marvelous Wonderettes, Newsical) marketing Broadway's 42nd Street, Dracula, Little Women, Jersey Boys and Forbidden Broadway. Kyle spent his evenings working in various Broadway theatres on productions of Chicago, The Color Purple, A Chorus Line and Avenue Q, and he held management positions at Disney's New Amsterdam Theatre (Mary Poppins) and off-Broadway's I Love You Because.

Kyle has worked across the US as a producer, director, choreographer, costumer, scenic designer and production photographer. For his work, he has received many awards including the AriZoni Award of Excellence, MET Award, Annie Award, Bourne Actor's Award and BroadwayWorld Award, among others. Kyle relocated to Dallas, TX in 2014 and has recently been featured in a commercial for Ameican Airlines and in the 2017 marketing campaign for Broadway's Dear Evan Hansen. He is thrilled to promote Dallas and Fort Worth as a senior editor at BroadwayWorld.

BWW Review: THE FULL MONTY at Uptown Players
BWW Review: THE FULL MONTY at Uptown Players
October 22, 2017

The 1997 British comedy film THE FULL MONTY was such a surprise hit, winning four Academy Awards on this side of the pond, that it was no shock to see it musicalized on the Great White Way only three short years later. For Broadway, the setting had been relocated from Northern England to the Northeast U.S. (Buffalo, New York to be exact), and although the men's drawers continue to be removed, the humorous and heartfelt storyline remains faithfully intact. And fortunately, the same can be said of the current production Uptown Players, Dallas' favorite LGBT-focused theatre company who confidently bares it all for their eager audiences.

BWW Review: RENT at Bass Performance Hall
October 19, 2017

In the 20+ years that RENT has been impacting the theatre-loving world, views on AIDS, drug use, and acceptance of the LGBTQ community have shifted many welcomed steps forward, and recently trumped several steps backward. Although the topics of RENT may not have the original shock value they did upon the show's celebrated 1996 Broadway debut, the relatable characters and moving themes are timeless, even alongside the now dated giant JNCO jeans, frosted tipped hair and clunky Doc Martens. (Fashion was not the 90's best feature.)

BWW Interview: Lyndie Moe of RENT at Bass Performance Hall
October 15, 2017

For most young actors, it takes many years of pounding the hot New York City pavement to catch their big break after college. And for many, that big break may never come. But just one year into her pursuit of a Bachelors of Fine Arts at Rider University, spunky songstress Lyndie Moe landed the dream of a lifetime: playing the iconic role of Maureen Johnson in the national tour of RENT. I caught up with Lyndie in Milwaukee, Wisconsin after only a few weeks on her journey with RENT, and although the professional credits on her resume may be few (for now), her dreams and dedication are clear!

BWW Review: JOSEPH AND THE A-MEH-ZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT at Casa Manana
September 14, 2017

Amazing is an adjective easily associated with Casa Manana's Broadway-caliber performances, especially considering their recent successes with WEST SIDE STORY, ROCK OF AGES, and notably their kick-ass apprentice production of BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON. But despite a top-notch production team and an infinitely skilled cast, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT doesn't quite live up to its title.

Fort Worth Arts Organizations Oppose Texas 'Bathroom Bill'
August 16, 2017

Earlier this week, the 'Bathroom Bill,' a controversial bill that would require people to use restrooms and facilities that match the sex on their birth certificates, was back on the table for discussion in Texas. Performing Arts Fort Worth - the non-profit organization that manages Bass Performance Hall - commented that although they 'generally [shy] away from involvement in political or social issues, [they feel] particularly passionate about this topic,' inspiring PAFW President & CEO Dione Kennedy to send the below letter to Joe Straus, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. The letter was a collaborative letter, signed by several leaders in local arts organizations. The bill has since died in Texas Legislature, for now.

BWW Review: HIT THE WALL at WaterTower Theatre
BWW Review: HIT THE WALL at WaterTower Theatre
August 8, 2017

Last Monday night, the Addison Theatre Center was abuzz, eagerly anticipating the directorial debut of WaterTower Theatre's new Artistic director, Joanie Schultz and the play HIT THE WALL that she carried with her from her previous Chicago home, the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. When the house opened, actors milled about the stage, an enthusiastic indie band jamming away behind them, casually greeting ticket buyers as they took their seats. And, although we weren't yet sure if we were there to witness humor or horror, we entered ready for a riot.

BWW Review: TIL DEATH DO US PART at The Murder Mystery Co. Of Dallas
August 2, 2017

While Dallas is celebrated for its thriving theatre scene, a good, old-fashioned dinner theatre can be hard to find in our great state. So, in my effort to track down the next best thing, I came across the Murder Mystery Co. of Dallas. While the troupe's creators have plenty of room to grow in order to perfect their intended experience, they're certainly on the right track.

July 22, 2017

Like a burst of light, Whitney Houston put herself on the movie screen map with her performance in the 1992 Warner Bros. blockbuster hit, THE BODYGUARD, leaving a long-lasting impression in our hearts and in the music industry. But, it appears that lightning won't be striking twice with this title, as the current stage attempt creates musical magic, but falls short of memorable.

BWW Review: FINDING NEVERLAND at Winspear Opera House
July 14, 2017

With enough glittering pixie dust and wonder for children of all ages, it doesn't take much magic for a musical to fly high. Any that's exactly the case in the touring production of FINDING NEVERLAND, which opened to a cheerful crowd last night at Dallas' Winspear Opera House for a two-week engagement.
