He's actively recovering from the loss.

Musicals generally give me all kinds of feels, but Passing Strange hit me deep. Give me an existential journey and I'm totally on board, but present it the way this musical does, and it could change the way you look at your own life.

Art isn't easy, but the Arvada Center has the kind of finesse to make it look that way.

There are some kinds of magic you think might be only possible with genies--and then Disney creates another Broadway musical.

BWW Review: THIS IS MODERN ART with DCPA's OFF-CENTER

Nowadays, you can argue anything is art. But I've never questioned if graffiti was. The bigger question is where it belongs, examined in DCPA Off-Center's latest feature.

BWW Review: FIRST DATE Might Not Be Your First, But It Could Be Your Favorite

First Date was not the first dating show I've seen at the Denver Center's Garner Galleria Theatre. And it probably won't be the last. But it's definitely my favorite so far.

A Kid Like Jake, by Daniel Pearle, is Benchmark's second-season opener. Directed by Warren Sherrill, the engaging one-act examines modern parenting and how society can pressure children out of authenticity.

BWW Review: THE KING AND I is Flawless...If It's Your Cup Of Tea
January 9, 2018

It takes a bit of push to get me to attend more classical works of musical theatre. I didn't grow up with the movies, so the nostalgia is a little lost on me. That being said, I was excited to see the tour of the Lincoln Center's recent production of The King and I, which nabbed a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

It's no surprise I love a musical about pie, but its recipe is what makes Waitress so delectable.

Sometimes you don't need a lavish design to make a musical about Vegas play well. I mean, it would have definitely brought another level to Vintage Theatre's current musical production of Honeymoon in Vegas, but the cast is what gives this one its dazzle.

BWW Review: RENT's 20th Anniversary Tour Won't Disappoint Your Inner Renthead
November 17, 2017

Rent was one of the first musicals I truly loved. My affinity for musicals didn't start as early as a lot of theatre people I know. I first picked up Rent in junior high, a 2-disc set from the library. I'd borrow it over and over until I learned all the words. Rent is the reason why angsty rock musicals will forever be my niche.

Hot. Shredded. Cheese. You know what I'm talking about. That gooey kind that stretches from the plate to your mouth, and you just can't get enough. That's how BDT Stage's current '80s jukebox musical Rock of Ages feels.

BWW Review: SOMETHING ROTTEN Definitely Isn't

Sometimes I wait to pay attention to a certain musical until I can experience it fully. That was the case with Something Rotten!, currently on tour playing the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. I've been impatiently avoiding listening to the music since its release but let me tell you, the wait was worth it.

BWW Review: You Won't Feel Like a Wallflower at DCPA's WILD PARTY
October 23, 2017

I think I'm addicted to immersive theatre, especially the way Denver Center's Off-Center has been bringing it. Their most recent production is a fully realized musical The Wild Party, a jazzy show set in the Roaring Twenties, where audience members can sip their gin alongside the performers. You're even encouraged to dress up in your best flapper attire.

Ever since I saw Once on tour, I've been intrigued how it would do regionally. The show itself isn't necessarily complicated, but you need to find actors who can sing well and play a variety of instruments while maintaining accents, or the show just doesn't work.

It won't even feel like Shakespeare! I'd told my fianc , who bowed out of this production because he thought he'd fall asleep. Granted, there would be no sleeping during the current Denver Center Theatre Company's production of Macbeth.

Before I knew the lyrics to Hamilton, I knew all the words to In The Heights. (Just kidding, everyone but me knows the lyrics to Hamilton.) But if it wasn't for Lin-Manuel Miranda's musicals, my theatrical rapping skills would be fairly unimpressive.

There are some shows that are just easy to love. It's been 60 years since The Music Man premiered on Broadway, but the classic tuner hasn't lost its allure. In fact, this is the show that launched Candlelight Dinner Playhouse back in 2008. The Johnstown theatre has brought it back as their 10th season opener.
