Soothplayers are proud to bring Completely Improvised Shakespeare to the 2016 Melbourne International Comedy Festival! Using nothing but their wits, wills, and a title provided by the audience, Soothplayers will present twenty-two all-new Shakespearean plays at Trades Hall for a full festival season.

Sounds impossible, right? Soothplayers turn the impossible into the incredible every night. Whether your completely original play becomes a comedy, tragedy, or history, you are sure to delight in their hilarious and accessible performance. Each production is a completely new work, replete with an on-the-spot prologue and unscripted dialogue in Shakespearean language.

The performers include veterans of Melbourne's three premier improvisation troupes, The Improv Conspiracy, Impro Melbourne, and The Big Hoo Haa, as well as graduates of Victorian College of the Arts and Chicago's world-famous iO Theatre. The troupe is under the direction of Green Room Award winner Andrew Strano.

Soothplayers have enjoyed rave reviews for recent seasons at the Melbourne Fringe Festival and The Butterfly Club. They will follow this debut Comedy Festival season with their regional debut at the Shakespeare on the River Festival in Stratford, VIC, honouring the 400th anniversary of the Bard's passing.
