KAGE presents the world premiere of Flesh and Bone in March 2013, a bold new work exploring the construction of attraction and our primal need to be connected. This worksees KAGE co-founders Kate Denborough and Gerard Van Dyck return to the stage, performing together for the first time in eight years.

Flesh and Bone explores and blurs traditional gender roles - with the change of costumes, so customs change - physical roles mixing and reversing. What's left is essence: instinctive masculinity and femininity rendered in shape, movement and contrast. Kate Denborough says "Flesh and Bone pays tribute toour 20 year creative relationship and revisits some of our earliest ideas. The interchange between male and female and the power of illusion have always fascinated us."

Visually stunning, Flesh and Bone brings the aesthetic, colours and style of Melbourne fashion designer Lisa Gorman together with Paul Jackson's lighting design to create a spectacular and striking physical work. Denborough and Van Dyck are also working with feminist writer Clementine Ford and a range of students in a process of 'reverse mentoring', to investigate the contemporary realities of gender roles in today's society."We really wanted to find out how things have changed, or if indeed they have changed," says Denborough. "What does it mean to be male or female in 2012? In what ways are we freer or more constrained?"

While society changes, the human desire for touch and intimacy is as basic as gravity. In this beautiful new work, the simple desire of flesh is a basic life force. Flesh and Bone takes what is essential from the heart and soul of two people and makes it physical, personal and out of the ordinary. Founded by Kate Denborough and Gerard Van Dyckin 1997, KAGE is a multi award-winning performance company which creates critically acclaimed work across dance, theatre and drama which is technically rigorous, visually striking and emotionally resonant.

Lisa Gorman launched her eponymous label in 1999 and has since built the Gorman label up to be an iconic part of the Australian fashion landscape. Lisa Gorman along with Actor, Musician and Comedian Eddie Perfect are proud to be KAGE Ambassadors.

To date this work has been supported by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body, the Victorian Government through Arts Victoria, the City of Melbourne, the City of Yarra, the Besen Family Foundation, the Ian Potter Foundation, Gorman, Jack London and FAT. KAGE is currently running a Pozible campaign to raise $3000 to enable them to complete the work and see it reach it's full potential www.pozible.com/fandb.

Flesh and Bone is part of the 2013 L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Cultural Program.

*The show on Saturday 9 March is presented as part of the 2013 Melbourne Food & Wine Festival Umbrella Events Program with a dinner event with Cumulus Inc.
