Contemporarian Theatre Company is proud to present the Australian premiere of Duck Hunting by acclaimed Russian playwright Aleksandr Vampilov.

Duck Hunting is a timeless classic and one of the monumental dramatic works of the 20th century that has never before been brought to life in Australia and rarely been performed outside of Russia since it's 1976 premiere. The play has been adapted to take place in modern day Melbourne and as such has become an original and relevant Australian work produced by an exciting new theatre company with a unique vision.

Duck Hunting follows the plight of Craig, a thirty-something who has lost his will to live. Craig has come to detest his mundane job and the petty superior he must defer to, his marriage is falling apart, he feels betrayed by his friends, and he disdains the young foreign student who offers him the passion he once derived from his wife. Craig's only hope is his annual duck-hunting trip, which he believes will restore a purpose to his life.

Led by award-winning British actor Christian Heath (Neighbours), the cast of ten includes Amanda Collins, Michelle De Rosa, Nicholas Drummond, Paul Gerrard, Louise Harding, Jessica Saras, Carlos Sivalingham, Anthony Sottile and Joshua Wiseman. This ensemble has been carefully cast with actors committed to Contemporarian Theatre Company's vision of creating a highly artistic form of theatre and illuminating the author's true meaning through techniques and processes informed by the legendary Russian Theatre.

Established by Russian-born and trained actor, director and playwright Shai Alexander and Australian filmmaker Toby B. Styling, Contemporarian Theatre Company is influenced by Russia's Vakhtangov Theatre, Moscow Art Theatre, Konstantin Stanislavski, Vsevolod Meyerhold, Michael Chekhov and the highly expressive theatre of Peter Brook. Contemporarian will continue to produce timeless classics, making them immediately relatable to modern audiences.
