A democratic theatrical extravaganza over two-and-a-half-thousand years in the making, Oedipus Schmoedipus takes several hundred of the all-time greatest plays, picks out the death scenes, mixes them together and hands them back to the people.

A collective manifesto on death, Oedipus Schmoedipus is an ambitious epic complied of all the death scenes ever written, which will be dismembered, catalogued in a computer database and reordered to establish new narratives and a new theatre show.

For this mammoth undertaking, Australia's silliest and smartest theatre bunch, post, are joined by 25 volunteers - a new cast are rehearsed fresh each night.

Fed up with white men staging the deaths of white men in plays written by white men, the white ladies of post have pirated the theatrical canon in order to confront the great unknown that is joyful and dark, stupid and smart, down-home and over the top.

Best known for Who's the Best (Sydney Theatre Company) and a wild catalogue of theatre/performance art including Everything I Know About the Global Financial Crisis in One Hour (B Sharp / post / version 1.0), post take being silly very seriously and have a deep and true commitment to innovation that doesn't get boring.

Zoë Coombs Marr, Mish Grigor and Natalie Rose are the three creators who make up post, whose work is often (but not always) concerned in engaging issues of control, gender, identity and politics in a way that is funny, fascinating and accessible.

Participant call-out This show will feature a new cast of 25 volunteers every night. To register, email contact details to volunteer.artshouse@melbourne.vic.gov.au.
