Alemayehu Eshete, one of the living legends of modern Ethiopian popular culture, will bring his energetic brand of Ethio-jazz and funk to Arts Centre Melbourne for two special performances with local nine-piece ensemble The JAzmaris this January.

An established performer since the 1960s, Alemayehu Eshete has won a legion of fans in a myriad of countries with his combination of American RnB and funk fused with Ethiopian modes and rhythms.

Referred to as an 'Ethiopian James Brown, he has released over 30 singles and toured the world, including performances at Womad and Glastonbury festivals.

Nine-piece jazz ensemble The JAzmaris blend influences from four corners of the globe while paying homage to their Ethiopian roots.

Their exceptional musicianship paired with Alemayehu Eshete's spirited stage presence ensures audiences will be entertained and delighted when they take to the Fairfax Studio at Arts Centre Melbourne.
