First grade's a big deal, and nobody's captured it better than best-selling children's author Barbara J. Park. Park's spritely, sassy protagonist, Junie B. Jones, is everyone's favorite first grader, and she comes to life on Weston Playhouse Theatre Company's second stage next week!

An hour-long, family-friendly production that the New York Times calls 'spirited entertainment' for all, JUNIE B. JONES THE MUSICAL has 'enough rock, R&B, and doo wop satire' to keep even adults entertained 'til the finish. Malcolm Ewen directs Weston's Young Company, an ensemble of seven undergraduate students hand-picked from the country's top musical theatre programs. Together, Ewen and his cast and crew re-create several of Park's Junie B. vignettes, including "Boss of Lunch," "One-Man Band," and "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal," treating guests to an afternoon of light-hearted family fun. "JUNIE B. JONES THE MUSICAL is a delightful look at Junie's adventures in starting first grade," says Ewen, "and she's an engaging character to whom all children and parents can relate."

Crafted by the esteemed writing team of Marcy Heisler and Nina Goldrich, JUNIE B. JONES has been nominated for two Lucille Lortel Awards (Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Choreography). Since 2014, it has seen two national tours and is currently one of Theatreworks USA's most popular children's productions. With several scripts and scores to their credit, "Junie B. Jones" among them, Heisler and Goldrich are poised to make their Broadway debut with the modern day fairy-tale, "Ever After." The two have also provided original songs for The Disney Channel, Disney Theatricals, PBS, and Nickelodeon. It's safe to say, kids (and parents) love their stuff!

JUNIE B. JONES THE MUSICAL runs June 25 through July 12 at Weston's intimate OtherStages (982 Route 100S.) Show times are Tues-Thurs at 4:00, Fri & Sat at 1:00, and Sun at 3:00. The performance runs for approximately one hour without intermission. Tickets are just $15 for adults, $8 for kids, and can be purchased by calling (802) 824-5288 or by visiting westonplayhouse.org.
