Uggams to Star in Feb. 27 Boston Reading of Raisin in the Sun

Tony Award-winner Leslie Uggams will headline a reading of Lorraine Hansbury's classic play A Raisin in the Sun on Monday, February 27th at Boston's Shubert Theatre at 7 PM.

She will take the part of matriarch Lena Younger in the show, which concerns one African-American family's struggle to claim a deferred American Dream. A post-performance Q&A session will also follow the reading, which will also feature Jacqui Parker, Vincent Siders, Darius Williams, Derek Jackson, and John Thompson and will be presented as part of the third annual American Voices: Drama, Dialogue, Downtown series. The series is presented by the Wang Center for the Performing Arts and the Poduska Family Foundation.

Uggams received a Tony Award for her performance in Hallelujah, Baby! and was also nominated for her turn in King Hedley II; On Golden Pond, Anything Goes, Blues in the Night and Her First Roman are among other credits. She received an Emmy Award nomination for her performance in "Roots," and other film and TV credits include "The Cosby Show," "The Love Boat," and Sugar Hill.

A March 13th reading of Tennessee Williams' The Night of the Iguana will follow A Raisin in the Sun.
