Rose Theatre Kingston has announced several new productions for 2016. Trevor Nunn returns to the venue to direct Shakespeare's KING JOHN, while John Malkovich makes his London directorial stage debut with the English-language premiere of Zach Helm's GOOD CANARY, and acclaimed American director Michael Rudman presents the first Arthur Miller play staged at the Rose.

Nunn is following up his recent production of THE WARS OF THE ROSES, a monumental event for the theatre last year. KING JOHN, the season opener in May, is the latest addition to nationwide celebrations of Shakespeare's 400th anniversary, and will be the penultimate play in Nunn's undertaking to direct all 37 of the Bard's plays. John Malkovich's GOOD CANARY comes in September, followed by Michael Rudman's production of the Miller classic ALL MY SONS.

Chief Executive of Rose Theatre Kingston Robert O'Dowd said today: "It's a huge honour for the Rose to be continuing our journey in this way - producing brilliant plays with some of the most exciting artists from both the theatre and film worlds. We feel enormously privileged to have both John Malkovich making his London directorial debut with Zach Helm's GOOD CANARY and another great American director Michael Rudman presenting his take on Arthur Miller's classic ALL MY SONS. And following last year's extraordinary THE WARS OF THE ROSES, we are also delighted to be welcoming back Trevor Nunn to direct the epic KING JOHN."

Oscar nominee John Malkovich, who has previously directed Helm's play to great acclaim in Paris and Mexico City, said: "I'm delighted to be working at the Rose and very pleased to be working again on GOOD CANARY, and to be finally working on the play in its native language."

The Rose Theatre's spring season is already underway, with highlights including the London premiere of Maxine Peake's BERYL, opening in March, and Peter Whelan's THE HERBAL BED - a co-production with English Touring Theatre and Royal & Derngate, Northampton - which opens at the theatre in April as part of its tour.

KING JOHN runs May 13-June 5, GOOD CANARY September 16-October 8, and ALL MY SONS October 28-November 19. Booking is now open.
