Say What Contemporary Art Gallery in Tannersville, NY, has invited the high school art classes from Tannersville and Windham Ashland Jewett Central Schools to participate in the second annual student art exhibit opening today, December 13, 2013.

As with all the exhibits at Say What?, the gallery chooses a literary quote as a springboard for the artist's work. This show draws from the lyrics of Stephen Sondheim's songs for SUNDAY N THE PARK WITH GEORGE, the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical about the life of the pointillist painter, Georges Seurat. Stephen Sondheim, the award-winning composer and lyricist, will participate in the judging of the student works and award prizes in several categories.

Gallery curator, Ed Cachianes screened the musical for the students, discussed the impact of both Seurat and Sondheim in their respective disciplines and is serving as a mentor for the project. The young artists may use any medium to explore their reaction to the quote, "The art of making art is putting it together," with the resulting works on display at the gallery's ground floor space beginning December 13.

Additional details, archives of past exhibits and up-coming events may be found at www.say-what-ny.com, or by calling the gallery at 518-589-7500. Say What Gallery is located at 6042 Main Street in Tannersville, New York, NY.
