STX Entertainment Pulls Funding for Barbra Streisand GYPSY Remake

The continuing saga of Barbra Streisand's GYPSY film remake continues as The Wrap reports that STX Entertainment, the upstart film studio previously attached to finance the project, would be withdrawing its pledge for funding.

This is the most recent development in the film's troubled history, details of which include a previously scrapped plan for Universal to produce the film with Streisand attached to direct and star as the film's obsessive stage mother, "Mama Rose" Hovick.

Undeterred by the setback, Streisand remains attached to the project as the film's star and producer, Joel Silver, will continue shopping the project to other production companies.

Sources close to the film report a hesitancy on the part of STX in funding a major project following the poor box office performance of recent outings such as Matthew McConaughey's, "Free State of Jones" and the Mila Kunis/Kristen Bell comedy, "Bad Moms"
