SPIDER-MAN TURN OFF THE DARK to Begin Coast-to-Coast Search for New 'Spidey' in Los Angeles, 8/12

SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, Broadway's high-flying spectacular, is launching a massive coast-to-coast search to find its next Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Los Angeles, at the Hollywood United Methodist Church, on Monday, August 12 beginning at 9:30 a.m. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the show's original and current star (and Los Angeles native), Reeve Carney (who is scheduled to depart the production on Sunday, September 15, 2013) is taking the trip to Los Angeles to be at the casting call to meet and greet hopefuls. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take over the lead role in Broadway's most famous show is completely open to the public. Hopefuls should be males in their late teens to early twenties of any ethnicity. They must have a great rock singing voice. They can be nerdy with an understated sex appeal and a good sense of humor. A second open call will take place in New York on Monday, August 19. Complete information on both casting calls is provided below.

The production will also use these open calls to find a future Mary Jane. Hopefuls for that role should be females in their late teens to early twenties of any ethnicity. Ideal candidates will be "beautiful girl next door" types with strong pop/rock singing voices.

Those auditioning should be prepared to sing a rock song a capella, showing off his/her range. They should also have sheet music on hand for that song in the event that they are asked to sing with the piano accompanist. Hopefuls are asked NOT to prepare any music from SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark. Everyone should bring a photo or snapshot and a resume stapled together.

SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark features music and lyrics by 22-time Grammy Award-winners Bono and The Edge and a book co-written by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, with direction by Ms. Taymor and additional direction by Philip William McKinley. Scenic DesignerGeorge Tsypin and Costume Designer Eiko Ishioka are winners of Outer Critics Circle Awards and were nominated for Tony Awards for their work on SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark.

The world's most recognizable Super Hero leaps off the comic book pages and onto the Broadway stage in SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark. Peter Parker's ordinary teenage life takes a turn for the extraordinary when he's bitten by a genetically altered spider and suddenly finds himself endowed with incredible superpowers. Parker quickly learns that with great power comes great responsibility as he tries to juggle the demands of high school and home life, while battling the Green Goblin and his band of super villains as they try to take down New York City and destroy everything Peter holds dear - including the beautiful girl-next-door, Mary Jane Watson. A select number of premium tickets are available for purchase.
