UNITED SOLO presents Javier Rivera's one-man show, SALVE REGINA: A COMING OF GAY STORY. Coming to us from Puerto Rico (via the Windy City), SALVE REGINA is written and performed by Javier Rivera and will play the 2014 UNITED SOLO Festival tonight, October 18th at 7:30 pm.

!Born in Puerto Rico to an ultra religious mother and a domineering father is not easy; especially when it's likely you are a big Queen. There are not enough novenas to pray, or candles to be lit. No, in this situation only a miracle will do, or better yet...a holy intervention. Thank God for Madonna.

Curtain goes up at 7:30 pm on October 18th, 407 West 41st Street. "SALVE REGINA is my way of reaching out to 8 year old me," playwright and performer Javier Rivera reflects, "and assuring him that things will be all right...which is a feeling I was not familiar with at that age. I was terrified of burning in hell for being gay...not being poetic here, I truly believed I was going to fry. All signs pointed to me not having a very happy ending. So I latched on to the music of Madonna, and all of a sudden I felt empowered, in control, and overcome with an overwhelming desire to dance. She DID make my life a happier place to live in-this is the truth. And to those in the audience, I hope you hold on tight to those things that inspire you and bring a smile to your face...and let go of anything that makes you question your worth and place on this planet. Because it does not matter whether you can cut a rug or have two left feet...you can still be the life of the party".
