Roseland Ballroom, Home to BROADWAY BARES, Beyonce and More, to Close in April?

New York City's Roseland Ballroom, home to shows such as Broadway Bares and big-name musical artists such as Beyonce and more, will be closing in April 2014, according to Billboard.

The Roseland was built in 1922 on West 52nd Street as an ice-skating rink. When Louis Brecker took over in the 1950s, he converted it into a roller-rink and banned rock and roll and disco from playing in the space in an attempt to keep the classy, ballroom-style feel of the club's first NYC location at 51st and Broadway (prior to that the club's roots were in Philadelphia).

The venue, with a capacity of about 3,500, has come a long way since then in terms of variety, having seen performers such as Beyonce, Phil Collins, Madonna, Nirvana, Fugazi, Metallica, Snow Patrol, Radiohead, Guns N' Roses, Bjork, Nicki Minaj, Deadmau5, Vampire Weekend and more.

Among the acts with upcoming shows at the Roseland are Danzig, Fitz & the Tantrums, The Wanted, Panic! At the Disco and more.
