Local performer Ron Cohn will celebrate his birthday with a cabaret show about his favorite composer,
Cole Porter at the
Arthur Newman Theater at the Joslyn Center in Palm Desert on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at 2 PM. He will be joined by local musical director
Christopher Marlowe and presented by
Les Michaels Life Is A Cabaret Sundays In Summer Series.
Ron has been performing his own cabaret show, at least annually, for many years, either here in the desert or back East where he has cabaret connections to New York City and Chicago as both a performer and a director of others shows, in addition to handling their bookings, press and publicity. His client list is virtually a 'who's who' in the world of cabaret. One of Ron's many talents is his ability to convey a story for each song about the show, composer, or stars associated with the song - almost like a history lesson for the audience who are often surprised by some of the juicy details. Ron's accompanist is much sought-after in cabaret circles,
Christopher Marlowe, who is known for his 11-year association with singer
Nancy LaMott until her passing in 1995. He also conducted for
Kathie Lee Gifford for over 6 years and for Bernadette Peter's pre-Broadway one-woman show, and he is now a permanent resident of Palm Springs.
