Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan's critically acclaimed adaptation of George Orwell's dystopian masterpiece will embark on a second UK tour from Autumn 2014 in a co-production with Headlong , Nottingham Playhouse and the Almeida Theatre.

1984 will open at Glasgow's Citizens Theatre, before travelling to Plymouth, York, Southampton, Exeter and Cambridge with more dates to be announced shortly.

This hugely successful co-production was one of Headlong's most acclaimed and commercially successful tours in recent history, having had its world premiere at Nottingham Playhouse in September 2013. Nominated for an Olivier award in the Best New Play category, the show will transfer to the West End's Playhouse Theatre from 28 April to 19 July produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Eleanor Lloyd Productions and Tulchin Bartner Productions, following a sold-out run at the Almeida Theatre.

George Orwell's 1984, published in 1949, is one of the most influential novels in recent history, with its chilling depiction of perpetual war, pervasive government surveillance and incessant public mind control. Its ideas have become our ideas, and Orwell's fiction is often said to be our reality.

Filtering the spirit and the ambition of the novel through the lens of contemporary culture, this radical new staging explores surveillance culture, identity and how thinking you can fly might actually be the first step to flying.

Full cast and tour details to be announced shortly.
