Theatregoers in a number of US cities won't have to go to off-Broadway to see The Musical of Musicals poke fun at five songwriting legends; the satiric musical will embark on a national tour this July.

The show will first bow on the West Coast at the Laguna Playhouse in Laguna Beach, CA from July 5th to September 4th, with opening night set for July 9th. It will then hit Philadelphia's Prince Music Theatre in October, 2005, before playing the Actors Playhouse in Coral Gables, FL, and the San Francisco Playhouse in spring of 2006. The productions, which have yet to be cast, will make their way to a number of other cities as well.

With music by Eric Rockwell, lyrics by Joanne Bogart, and a book by both, The Musical of Musicals currently runs at Dodgers Stages Stage 5 (340 W. 50th Street); the show premiered at the York Theatre Company, but transferred upon its success. The Musical of Musicals sharply but affectionately skewers the trademark musical conventions in the work of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Kander and Ebb as a single plotline is threaded through the sounds of each.

In addition to the regional productions, stock and amateur companies will now be able to stage the show with the recent acquisition by Samuel French, Inc. of The Musical of Musical's production and publishing rights.
